I had a chance to go to the MoMA exhibit ‘Design and the Elastic Mind’ this past weekend. The museum was packed with people so it was hard to really appreciate the work and take time to view things. I will need to return. But at a first glance, the work was super interesting and out there. Some of the concept pieces where beyond my imagination. Not so much out of this world or futuristic, more abstract and real than expected. I posted a bunch of photos I took, so feel free to check them out on my flickr page.

I was walking around 5th ave. and 68th and ran into a gallery which was showing Robert Rauschenberg’s work. I will write soon about the show. But for now you can view most of it on my flickr page. I really enjoyed this find.

Cai Guo-Qiang “I want to believe” is showing until May 28th and I HIGHLY recommend it.
I have never seen the Guggenheim utilize its space such as this. Its beautiful, full of energy, and grand. I’ve never heard of this Chinese artist until last week and had heard a buzz about this show… ‘a must see’.., I didn’t really know what to expect except for what I had seen in this video, which is very impressive, so I had to check this out for myself… Continue reading “Cai Guo-Qiang at the Guggenheim”
Katie’s work is meticulous…She loves anything tiny and detailed and her hand-made type work is beautiful. For this particular series, she traveled the antique scene to collect some key pieces, and also took note of people’s random quotes and placed them together to create very clever artwork and conversation pieces…Her work is original and her craft is sharp. check it out her art on my flickr page, and also her website.
Artist Noel Middleton knits creatures and carves monsters out of wood. He brings life to very odd forms. I feel like they belong in a little girls nightmare, yet they make me smile. Take a look for yourself…

My Friend Angela Costanzo is part of this big gallery event this Sunday Feb. 24th @ GALAPAGOS ART SPACE in Brooklyn. If you are in the area, come and check it out!!! 50 artists, 10 bands and short films!! I’m going!
MoMA.org has an online exhibit for artist Lucian Freud. You should see it at fullscreen for best results. You can zoom into the paintings and view the detail of the brush/pencil work. You can learn about Freud’s sitters and subject matter, techniques and background. This is a great idea and I think it should be done more often.

Marianna is a photojournalist based in the outback town of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory of Australia where she currently works for two US based photo agencies, Corbis and ZUMA Press covering news, feature and travel assignments. Her most recent project is a documentary photo story on the plight of the Aboriginal people living in the many ‘town camps’ surrounding the city of Alice Springs.
