I watched this movie last night…and I am incredibly impressed with Daniel’s work. It all really came together and it’s a solid piece of documentation. This movie is a robust view of the art form, its history and its current perils. It’s exciting, informative, absorbing and personal. I love it, can you tell? If graffiti is somehow part of your life, you need to watch this. No, actually, everyone should. The DVD is available here.

I’ve been waiting for this moment for a while now. My good friend Daniel has finished his film. He has traveled the world to capture great graffiti artists doing their work. I am so proud of him and this will be a kick ass movie. If you happen to be in Berlin, go to the premiere. If you are stuck at work (like me), check out the website alterego-themovie.com.

Spent the day yesterday walking the Metropolitan Museum of Art on 81st and 5th Ave. Its been over 10 years since my last visit (god I feel old), and I forgot how HUGE that museum is. I tried to go through the whole thing, but it must be about a weeks worth of walking….So pretty much just walked around and stumbled into places and eras that seemed interesting.
Loved the Victorian rooms:
Saw plenty of sculptures and paintings. Saw my favorite painters and also took detail pictures of their brushwork. Painters such as Van Gogh, Gauguin and Cezanne really get me in the mood to paint. I love their colors, the richness of the paint, the brushwork and subject matters. I adore the tropical still-lifes and landscapes. They remind me of Venezuela and my godmother, who’s first oil paint lesson for me was a mango still-life on her backporch over-looking the Maracaibo Lake.

Also swung by the SUPERHEROES exhibit, which was surprisingly small and overly hyped for what it is..as well as the Jeff Koons sculptures on the Rooftop garden. the view was great…the sculptures… meh. I did get a kick of the reflections.
I love the MET. one of my favorites. So much history and so much art. I need a free week to walk it all.

Took a stroll to check out Walton Ford’s exhibit at Paul Kasmin Gallery and ended up viewing 3 other artists in the area. Yoko Ono, Paul Winstanley and Bruce Porter.
Walton Ford’s watercolor works are beautiful and impressive.
Yoko Ono’s exhibit has a fun Polaroid wall which anyone can become part of. I left one behind, see if you find me 
Paul Winstanley’s Paintings are soft and subtle, and very beautiful. Except for one that had reds and darker colors. Very different from his very large curtain and green paintings.
And not but not least, Bruce Porter’s paintings are cut-outs addressing mythological themes. There is pencil lines around the shapes and messy color fills. He’s work is interesting, but not my favorite. His exhibit opens tonite 5-22-08.

An artist’s rendering of the New York City Waterfalls project, proposed by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. Four giant waterfalls will be erected in New York for three months this summer in a public art project city officials hope will create $55 million in extra tourism revenue for the Big Apple. The waterfalls, including one that will fall from the famed Brooklyn Bridge, are the brainchild of Eliasson. They will cost $15 million, to be funded by private donations to New York’s Public Art Fund.
!!This is gonna be sooo cooooool……!!
UPDATE: It will start this JULY 2008 for a total of 3 months.

I went to Milk Gallery to see Michael Sagato’s work not knowing what to expect. I know Sagato is around my age and is quickly becoming a very successful artist so I was curious to see what was considered impressive enough to achieve such success. In this series, “The Play of Shine and Shade”, Sagato paints the human figure, mainly female, with a renaissance-style technique. His nudes are beautiful and realistic and he’s drapery reminds me of the old masters. Few of his pieces also reminded me of Odd Nerdrum and one in particular, “Reincarnation”, of Salvador Dali.
There is no doubt Sagato is a talented painter. His brushwork is sophisticated, his colors are rich, dark and dramatic, And his subject matter is thought provoking. I had the pleasure to meet Michael and chatted a bit about his work and his process. Milk Gallery has extended his show until Wednesday April 30th. I hope you have the chance to view his paintings, I highly recommend it.

She is incredible with detail and technique, but lately has been focusing on abstract and texture. She also loves to Sculpt. She has taught me so much about art since little, I owe my passion for it to her. Check out her portfolio and be inspired.

I can’t get over lockwasher’s work. he creates robots, rockets, rayguns and anything you can think of… i love this stuff!!!!! makes me smile and feel good. I’m painting againnnnnnnnnnnnn! I’m back painting with oils and it feels amazing. I love it. this has taken too long. I decided to do a series on birds. Cute little furry birds. They are small and fun and quick paintings. Just what I need to get back into it. I hope you enjoy. Here’s the first one.

hi friends. here’s an interesting idea…help up-coming artists get their name out…and help your apartment with some original artwork. no, not prints…original one-of-a-kind pieces. This NY artist-run website gives 90% of the profit to the artist where most galleries are known to take 50% of the sales. YEA. fifty!! (*sigh*) Original art for 99 is a great way to get started as an artist or buyer. If you are like me and can’t spend millions on a Cezanne, this might be the place for you….surf around and check out some new art.

So. I went to the PHTHRD II event last night. plenty of free dewars and beers… and we took advantage of it ( :/ )….it was held at the powerhouse arena in D.U.M.B.O, Brooklyn and it was packed with old ladies….well, sorta. Last night’s theme was a Polaroid duel between 3 photographers. Whomever attended was asked to dress as a granny if they wanted to be part of the project…the photographers had all night to shoot and about 30+ mins to put together a creative piece with their images. my favorite was Jonathan Harris’s idea. While Google searching for Birds, a simple painting of tini red birds and a small figure caught my eye and led me to Kristiana Pärn’s website. This girl is super talented and I Love her work. She does everything!! pretty amazing and very inspiring. I hope I run into one of her pieces while visiting galleries.
